Desert Foothills Library
In 1954 the Desert Foothills Library was founded. The first librarian, Dorothy Smith, operated out of her car. By 1957, a branch was connected to the Cave Creek School. In 1975, a couple donated $30,000 to the library to build their stand-alone location. The Desert Foothills Library had a permanent location, a board of directors in place, and formed the library association.
Today, the Desert Foothills Library has been recently remodeled and expanded to provide new programming space, including a beautiful demonstration kitchen. It has study space and comfortable chairs to enjoy the beautiful view. Chapter 2 Bookstore contributes over $100k in income, and Club 1117 creates a welcoming atmosphere for teens. State of the art technology is available in every programming room. Almost every inch of the Library fixtures is on wheels to provide flexible accommodation for the Foothills community's growing needs. Circulation is over 90,000 materials each year, and there are over 110,000 visits!

The Desert Foothills Library is a 501(c)3 non-Profit public library of 20,000 square feet which offers a full range of items for check out including books, audio books, DVDs, music CDs and magazines. There is no charge for a library card to residents of Maricopa County, but patrons are encouraged to participate in the library financially through an annual donation which is fully tax deductible. The library is located at 38443 North School House Road; one block north of Cave Creek Road on the east side.
Chapter 2 Bookstore
Chapter 2 Bookstore is operated 7 days a week by a dedicated group of Desert Foothills Library Volunteers and has an inventory of more than 15,000 hardcover and paperback books in all genres. A wide selection of DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, children’s books and puzzles are also available at bargain prices. Chapter 2 Bookstore has an online Amazon store full of unique and wonderful books. There is no charge for a library card to residents of Maricopa County, but patrons are encouraged to participate in the library financially through an annual donation which is fully tax deductible.The library also offers a book store together with programs for adults and children. In addition, we are a passport acceptance office. The library offers stunning views and a beautiful patio for quiet contemplation.We are pleased to offer home-bound delivery for residents who are unable to come to the library.
